What started as an exclusively chassis for the American Speed Association (ASA) has evolved
into platform for several stock car division around the world. From 1992 through 2004 the
same basic configuration chassis was used by every competitor in ASA as well as
those in the GT America, United Kingdom’s (Days of Thunder) DoT division and South
Africa’s SASCAR division. After extensive testing with the help of General Motors,
Howe has developed a new mid section for ASA with improved safety features better suited
to the larger tracks of the modern ASA schedule. Both versions will accept the same “Grand
National” dimension flange fit bodies and suspension with a common 105" wheelbase, 60" tread width
and 50" roof height. A two seat option is available on request for promotional and instruction use cars.

Chassis will remain available with the original 92-04 mid section without the ASA registered tags for non-ASA divisions. These mid sections are 60" wide across the outside of the frame rails and 73" wide at the door bars. All of the main structure is 1-3/4" x .095 d.o.m. tubing. Chassis built with this mid section will accommodate a left side shift transmission.

The frame rails are 55" wide with the width at the door bars reduced from the previous design by 5" per side. A 5" thick 11 lb. energy absorbing crush box can be installed to reduce the effect of side impacts to the driver. The driver’s seat is moved 5" toward the center of the chassis for added safety. A center or right shift transmission must be used. The length has been increased by 2" for added leg room. A redesign of the left vent post allows for improved visibility and cage integrity. A combination of different thickness 1-3/4" d.o.m. tubing is used to help control the bending direction in heavy impacts.
